Beginning snowboarding as a child of around 11, Nakai qualified as a pro just five years later, and at 17, he competed in the Salt Lake Winter Olympics, finishing fifth.

Nakai is currently not only Japan's most stylish snowboarder, but also the greatest medal prospect. He was selected for the national team to represent Japan at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. Nakai's performance as a pro in the X-GAMES and various half-pipe competitions including World Cups, as well as filming DVD (Red Eyes' Film) have combined to reveal the strong presence of a multi-talented, charismatic sports star. In 2006, Nakai has won the Abominable Snow Jam and expected to fascinate fans at the X-trail Jam Tokyo Dome.

Another recent project, an experimental film featuring Nakai and his snowboarding companions from Hokkaido, in Hokkaido's backcountry terrain, is an example of Nakai's energy and innovation, incorporating his own experience into various projects.
