As an indoor beach volleyball player for Japan’s V league’s Red Rockets, she experienced winning two championships. She made the switch from indoor to beach volleyball in 2002, so is still new to this sport, but with her innate physical ability, very high expectations are held for the development of this young sportswoman. Forming a pair with Mika Saiki,
who enjoyed success at the Sydney Olympics, finishing fourth, Urata strengthened rapidly under the guidance of this partner.
This team’s successes include winning the Beach Volleyball Japan Circuit in 2004, and Urata’s ability continues to climb.
On top of her ability, Urata’s much admired figure and natural, bright character have contributed to demand for her appearances on TV shows and radio, and in newspapers and magazines and has be come what could be described as an idol-like existence in Japan. In 2006, she played in the Asian Games as a national team player.
From year 2007, the name of her team has changed to “Leopalace Winds”.She will challenge to qualify for the Beijing Olympics with her partner Hiromi Suzuki.
